NJ Tree Foundation plants its 7,000th Tree in Camden!

The NJ Tree Foundation worked hard this spring to plant trees in Camden, Newark, and North Jersey. On April 13th, 2019, we celebrated a large milestone for Camden. Together with volunteers, the NJ Tree Foundation planted our 7,000th tree as part of the Urban Airshed Reforestation Program. Together with residents and volunteers, we planted 16 trees along Waldorf, Highland, Beacon Avenues and Alberta Woods Park.

Program Coordinator Meredith Brown uploaded a Facebook live video and mentioned it on other social media platforms. This spring, we had a total of six planting events, installed 131 trees, engaged with 522 volunteers, and removed 144 square feet of concrete.  One of the residents, Betty Louie, had received trees from us six years before and was happy to have two more trees planted on her property. Betty was kind enough to appear on our second Facebook live video during the tree planting. She told Meredith that she had a very special reason for planting so many trees at her home “I have one tree now for each of my grandkids and one extra…nine trees total. People, get one. You’ll enjoy it. Get a tree!” We are so excited to have had the opportunity to work in Camden for the last 17 years. Special thanks to all planting partners, the volunteers who work hard to plant the trees, and residents who take the initiative to bring trees to their communities. We are grateful for the chance to continue working in Camden to plant trees and look forward to what the next 17 years have to offer!
