Volunteer Recognition Award for NRTP

The Newark Renaissance Trees Program has the pleasure of working with 100’s of volunteers each season. This year, NJ Tree Foundation staff have created a Volunteer Recognition Award to honor those dedicated tree advocates that attend several tree plantings and go above and beyond as a volunteer.

The Newark Renaissance Trees Program would like to announce our Fall 2011 Volunteer Recognition Award recipients – Shannon Coulter, Rachel Santos and Wayne McDougall. Thank you so much for your commitment to planting trees and transforming communities in Newark! Even a snowy planting in October could not keep these folks from finishing a tree planting! You are an incredible asset to our program and organization! We hope to continue our work with you in the new year.

Jessica Franzini Wins Campbell’s Hometown Hero Award

Today, at the Campbell Soup Annual Networking Breakfast, NJ Tree Foundation employee Jessica Franzini received the Campbell’s Hometown Hero Award for her years of service in Camden. Jessica coordinates our Urban Airshed Reforestation Program (UARP), a community-based tree planting program in the city. She also facilitates Camden TreeKeepers, a series of educational workshops for neighborhood residents. During her acceptance speech, Jessica explained, “Working in Camden has been a blessing. I have truly met the most amazing people here. Thank you to the residents and partners who make our work possible.”

Thank you to Campbell Soup for this incredible recognition! Additionally, we thank the many Campbell Soup employees that volunteered their time, talents and muscle to plant trees in 2011. You’re all amazing!

Tree Tuesday: Holiday Lights

The NJ Tree Foundation loves residents that decorate their trees! Holiday lights and ornaments bring color to communities in the winter. Just remember, remove these decorations by spring. Lights and ornaments can interfere with your tree’s long-term growth if not removed.

Do you have a photo of a beautifully decorated tree? Share it with us here! Pictured left is 85-year old Camden resident Juanita Butler and her newly planted tree in December 2011.

Tree Pit of the Month

January's Tree Pit of the Month
January’s “Tree Pit of the Month” goes to the McWhorter Street residents in Newark. This past fall, six new flowering Tree Lilacs were adopted and planted by the residents. The community has gone above and beyond essential tree care with protective fences. Every resident has named their new tree and are keeping a watchful and caring eye over them as if they were their own children. Madalena Ribeiro, a resident on McWhorter St. told us “Trees are life! A tree can make your life or day better, just noticing them. Watching the transformation of our new trees, makes me feel good.”
Thank you McWhorter Street for being great tree-keepers!
