Camden Fall Season Review: 2013

1394276_10152067524918273_2036091995_nThis fall, our Camden Urban Airshed Reforestation Program (UARP) planted 231 trees with help from 442 volunteers, bringing our numbers since inception to 5,040 trees planted in eleven years! Trees in urban areas improve air and water quality, mitigate pollution, assist with stormwater management, provide shade, and beautify inner-city neighborhoods.

This season, we are recognizing exceptional volunteers that rock our world! Thank you to Paul and Peter Wharburton, a father/son tree planting team, and the CMSRU Cooper Medical School students, who have dedicated themselves to improving Camden’s environment by planting trees.

Newark Fall Season Review

This fall was another successful tree-planting season for the Newark Renaissance Trees Program.  Through 4 projects, we were able to plant 79 trees spanning throughout Newark.  As always, hard-working volunteers made all of the plantings possible with their muscle and positive attitudes.  This fall was filled with new and exciting experiences.

We had the opportunity to work with the Super Bowl Host Committee in a Legacy event in which we planted 28 trees along Chancellor Avenue. This event brought together the community surrounding Chancellor Ave School and Weequahic High School, with the Verizon Green Team. This October also marked our first fruit-tree planting in Newark. The NJ Tree Foundation paired up with Greater Newark Charter School to plant 5 fruit trees in their Urban Farm.

Special thanks to this fall’s sponsors and donors:
USDA Forest Service
TD Bank
Walgreens of Newark
City of Newark

These new fall trees bring our total of trees planted to 1,852 trees in 8 years!

Thank you for everyone who made our fall season possible:
we look forward to more great work in the spring.
The deadline for a Spring 2014 planting is December 31, 2013.
