JOB OPENING: PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The NJ Tree Foundation is seeking 2-3 Program Assistants for its Urban Airshed Reforestation Program.
The Program Assistant will work directly with the NJ Tree Foundation’s Program Director to implement community-based tree planting projects in Camden and Gloucester City during the spring of 2023 (late March-early May, schedule pending). Most plantings will be held on Saturdays, with the possibility of at least one weekday planting.

As a result of the current circumstances regarding COVID-19, in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus under advisement from the New Jersey State Government and CDC, the NJ Tree Foundation is currently making plans to reschedule tree planting events set to occur in early April. Some of these events may happen later in the spring, some could be pushed to the fall. We appreciate your patience during this time as we work to provide a safe, fun volunteer environment for planting trees.

This fall, the NJ Tree Foundation had the opportunity to partner with the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority and the South Jersey Land & Water Trust to plant trees at the Cramer Hill Nature Preserve. The Cramer Hill Nature Preserve, which officially opened in May of this year, is a 35 acre forest in Camden City. This park was once the site of illegal dumping and a sewage treatment plant, but has since been remediated. The Cramer Hill Nature preserve also hosts a portion of the Circuit Trail, an 800-mile network of trails that spans from Philadelphia and into Camden. The Circuit Trail runs along Farragut Ave and works its way through the adjacent neighborhood.

Do you have a shovel-ready tree planting project? The New Jersey Tree Foundation wants to help it come to fruition! Shovel-ready projects are tree planting projects where tree locations and numbers have already been decided on and the only thing missing is funding. The NJ Tree Foundation will work with applicants to find and apply for grants to fund the project and, if awarded, will partner with you to organize and conduct the planting with volunteers.

The NJ Tree Foundation focused on the Circuit Trail and watershed health as part of our fall tree planting season. Two projects were implemented along the Circuit using funding from the William Penn Foundation. Two additional plantings were conducted along the Circuit, but funding for these trees came from other sources. Read more

The NJ Tree Foundation is gearing up for a busy fall season in Camden! Two plantings will focus on areas near the Circuit Trail. The Circuit Trail is a 750-mile network of trails that run throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. They are easily accessible and provide residents with a free way to hike, bike, walk, and travel. Through a generous grant from the William Penn Foundation, the NJ Tree Foundation has lined trails and the surrounding areas with trees. Trees help to shade the trail, absorb excess stormwater, and help provide a “greenway” in surrounding areas to guide residents to the nearest portion of the Circuit. Read more
