Can it be prevented in the future?
Rather than prevent it, we encourage it as long as you plant outside of the tree’s rootball! Digging into the tree’s roots can cause damage to your tree. Plant flowers along the outside of your tree pit, as shown in this photo, rather than close to the trunk of the tree.
