Suu’s Story

My name is Timothy S., my friends call me Timmy or Suu. I would like to share my experience working for the NJ Tree Foundation.

Suu teaching a volunteer how to mulch a tree.

I was introduced to the NJ Tree Foundation through their Green Streets re-entry program. The program helps you work your way into the workforce. When I first started working with the Foundation I really never gave any thought about planting trees other that it’s a job. If I’d been asked a year ago about planting trees I would’ve simply said: it’s physically demanding and repetitive, not giving any thought to the process of, nor the use and benefits trees would have for the urban communities. A year later I’m asked to share my experience working with and for this great organization.

I love the process and experience I have gained. The growth and knowledge of planting trees, making the communities around us a little better. Meeting new people and seeing different towns in New Jersey. It’s the beauty that the trees add in different communities while they reduce air pollution that’s so important.

I see trees differently now – not just for paper and fire wood, but for the beauty that nature brings. I love planting trees, it’s a great and wonderful experience. Thank you for this amazing opportunity.

Claudio and Suu, both Green Streets crew members, take a break in the shade while learning at a tree identification walk led by NJ Tree Foundation board member, Pam.

Please help us continue offering work opportunities for men under parole supervision in 2020, providing life-changing experiences for more men like Suu. You can make a tax-deductible end of year donation to the NJ Tree Foundation or donate in honor of a loved one as a holiday gift. Thank you in advance for your generous support.

Thank you,
