Celebrating trees in Camden and Newark

The NJ Tree Foundation had a lot to celebrate in 2019 – including environmental justice and planting our 7,000th tree in Camden!

We planted 31 trees with students at the Luis Munoz Marin School in Newark to celebrate a day dedicated to environmental justice. The school provided a hot breakfast, t-shirts, and a cake for the students and planting volunteers! The new trees welcome students as they walk to school and provide shade when they are in the courtyard. Located only two blocks from the Passaic River on an industrial stretch of waterfront, planting new trees at the school certainly was a cause for an environmental justice celebration!

In Camden, we celebrated planting our 7,000th tree! Can you believe that? We have planted 7,047 trees in Camden over the past 17 years! Two Camden residents, Tony E. and Josue M., worked with us to plan the event where we planted our 7,000th tree. Tony and Josue did not know each other before the tree planting but had the same goal: to beautify their street with trees. They accomplished that goal with 16 new trees on their street! One of their neighbors, Betty, lives on the corner and is now surrounded by trees. She says she has one tree for each of her grandchildren, plus one more. Betty has a message for everyone, “People, get one. You’ll enjoy it. Get a tree!” We were thrilled to celebrate our 7,000th tree with great friends in Camden.

You have the power to help us continue celebrating new trees in 2020. Please make a tax-deductible end of year donation to the NJ Tree Foundation, or consider donating in honor of a loved one as a holiday gift. Thank you in advance for your generous support. Here’s to more tree celebrations in 2020.

Thank you,
