Peach trees!

If you want to start growing your own food, and love peaches, now is the time to plant a peach tree (or two). Small space? No worries, there are dwarf and semi-dwarf varieties for small spaces. On stay at home? You can order fruit trees online from many reputable growers. They are shipping now!

A semi-dwarf peach tree takes up little space.

We recommend semi-dwarf fruit trees. A semi-dwarf peach tree grows 12-15’ tall & wide. They produce fruit within a year or two post-planting and give the best yield per square foot of space.

In NJ you will need to protect your peaches from marauding squirrels, raccoons and some pesky insects. Bird netting the entire tree does a great job of keeping your fruit safe until it’s ready for harvest. As for insects – diligence is the best prescription. Check your trees daily to make sure they are healthy and insect-free.

Use bird netting to protect your fruit trees from common NJ critters.

Peaches are generally ready to pick in early August. So, plant now and enjoy the fruits of your labor in five months!

Yummy, organic peaches!
