Beautifying City Parks

Trees can be the icing on the cake for any park renovation project. Even better is when we can install enhanced tree pits, shown above, which are almost like mini habitats with multiple trees and shrubs! In fall 2020 the NJ Tree Foundation, partners, and volunteers planted 17 trees in and around the 4th & Washington Park in Camden City.

The NJ Tree Foundation worked closely with the Lanning Square West Residents Association and Camden resident Pino Rodriguez to complete this project. Pino is a long-time friend of the NJ Tree Foundation and was one of the first residents in Camden to organize a tree planting on his street when we started working there in 2002. He remains dedicated to improving his community and speaks passionately about how planting trees in Camden has united his neighborhood, reduced crime, and brought hope to the doorsteps of the residents.

Pino Rodriguez, longtime Camden resident and Lanning Square West Residents Association member, addresses volunteers at the tree planting event and explains how these trees will impact his neighborhood. Pino leads clean up efforts for the 4th & Washington Park.

The eight, new, stunning enhanced tree pits planted around the park have trees, flowers, and shrubs inside. As the greenery grows it will create an extended tree canopy between the park and the street, providing cooling shade on the hot pavement in the summer months. The variety of trees planted will burst with color in the fall and display welcoming flowers in the spring – breathing new life into the area surrounding this recently renovated and popular park.

Your support is what allows us to create beautiful outdoor spaces with residents in cities like Camden. The residents and families in Camden will enjoy the benefits of the new trees at the 4th & Washington Park for generations to come. We thank you for your support during the giving season and all year long. Please see below for ways you can keep helping us plant trees to improve the lives of residents in New Jersey’s urban areas.

Donate what you can, if you can. Any amount helps.
