Our Renaissance Trees Program, which traditionally has focused its tree planting efforts in Newark, held a community-based tree planting in Irvington in November. We planted 32 trees around the Chancellor Avenue Elementary School and Park Place Apartments. Principal Jackson, who coordinated a tree planting event at a Newark school with us in 2009, was very excited to work with the NJ Tree Foundation again!
“We want to make sure these trees live and grow!” Principal Jackson explained at the tree planting event, as he asked for details on tree care. We know the trees are in good hands, as many tiny hands got very dirty that day! One of the dozen students who came to school on a Saturday to help us plant trees said, “This is so much fun! I never touched dirt before!”
Seven different varieties of trees were planted at this event, diversifying the tree canopy and offering something for all seasons. The Black gums, maples, hophornbeams, and elm we planted will provide cooling shade in the summer and vibrant color to greet students in the fall. The cherries, crape myrtles, and dogwoods will bring flowering beauty in the spring and summer. All of this is made possible with your donations!
Your generous donation to our annual appeal will help us plant more trees in 2019 and allow us to continue to spread our beneficial work in new cities like Irvington. Please consider the NJ Tree Foundation as one of your charities for end-of-year-giving.
You can also make a donation in honor of someone else for the holidays. We will send a card to your loved one that recognizes your donation. Trees, the gift that keeps growing!
